UPA II WONT LET THE LAW TAKE ITS OWN COURSE

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Govt-wont-fix-time-limit-for-deciding-mercy-petitions-Chidambaram/articleshow/7557257.cms

Afzal Guru was sentenced to death in 2002 after being found guilty of plotting the terror attack on Parliament on December 13, 2001. First the Delhi High Court upheld the trial court sentence and then the Supreme Court confirmed it in August 2005. But his execution was stayed after his wife Tabassum filed the mercy petition in October 2006, which is "still under examination'' in the home ministry and is yet to be submitted to Rashtrapati Bhawan. The government made it clear that it will not prescribe a time-limit for decisions on mercy petitions of prisoners on death row.
In other words, the UPA II led by Congress will not allow the law to take its own course. it does'nt come as any surprise that 'justice delivery system' and the nation are less important for the Congress than its own political calculations.
